Quit's training programs for health professionals
Smoking cessation training for health professionals is tailored to suit daily practice and patient needs (identified through a needs analysis; for example focusing on general health or issues such as respiratory/cardiac/diabetes/pharmacy/oral health). Depending on professional requirements and availability, Quit has a range of training programs that can be offered.
What is the duration of training?
Sessions range from forty-five minutes to two days. Training sessions cover brief smoking cessation intervention (known as the 5As) to extended cessation support (including motivational interviewing techniques). The training sessions vary according to time and participants needs.
When is the training completed?
Training is delivered during the day or evening, at professional meetings and conferences, as sessions within tertiary curricula, in-practice, in metropolitan and regional Victoria, interstate and internationally.
How is the training delivered?
Training can be delivered in different ways:
- Self-learning using online and video/DVD based packages (currently tailored for the GP and dental setting). Find out more about online training here.
- Face-to-face sessions combine formal presentation, utilising PowerPoint slides and information kits are given to each participant.
Health professionals who participate in Quit's training receive a quarterly electronic newsletter called 'Making a Difference' to help participants maintain and further develop knowledge about tobacco control.
