Educator training is designed for professionals wishing to develop their smoking cessation intervention skills. By becoming a Quit Educator you will be able to facilitate all of Quit's courses and/or provide one-to-one assistance in a range of settings.
Find out more about Educator training.
The role of an accredited Quit Educator is:
-
to educate participants about smoking and smoking cessation
-
to involve participants in the course
-
to encourage participants to attend all sessions
-
to empower participants to make the decision to quit and/or stay quit
-
to be a motivator and an information source
-
to provide practical ideas of how to manage the process of quitting smoking
-
not to 'make' participants quit - as it is a person's decision to quit smoking, ultimately it is their choice.
Special requirements
As Quit's Fresh Start Course and Short course are group-oriented programs, previous experience of group teaching methods is recommended. Relevant experience in an education or health-related setting is also important.
We require that those wanting to undertake the Educator training have
not smoked for at least six months. This is because quitting smoking is difficult and research has shown that most people make a number of attempts before quitting successfully.
