Educators are expected to keep their smoking cessation and tobacco control knowledge current and up-to-date. To remain accredited, Educators must attend a yearly Inservice. Professional development is assisted through Refresher training, by reading Quit's quarterly newsletter and through regular email updates.
Refresher training
Quit Victoria is always looking at new ways to support Educators in their role providing smoking cessation support, in the workplace and community.
Our Refresher training is an optional training session, specifically for those who would like to refresh their skills, in either one-to-one brief intervention skills, or those who facilitate Quit courses in a workplace or community setting (such as Fresh Start, Short courses, or Quitters are Winners). Refresher training is different and separate to the annual Inservice, in that it is not compulsory to attend in order to retain your accreditation as a Quit Educator.
Refresher training dates currently scheduled for 2012:
"Revisiting the 5As"With a focus on one-to-one brief intervention
"Revisiting Fresh Start"With a focus on facilitating groups and conducting Quit courses
For further information please contact Quit's Prevention/Cessation Program Project Officer, Rebecca Riley at Rebecca.Riley@cancervic.org.au, or by phone (03) 9635 5531.
Inservice
Educators are required to attend a yearly Inservice day in November/December (held in Melbourne). If unable to attend, Educators are required to complete a professional development activity form and send this back to Quit within a designated time frame. Two dates are set for Inservice each year, however Educators are only required to attend one of these days.
The 2012 Educator Inservice will be held on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd November. Quit Victoria sends Educators an Inservice invite as the event approaches.
Educator newsletter and updates
Quit Educators are kept informed about smoking cessation/tobacco control initiatives with a quarterly newsletter called the Human Touch, as well as press releases and relevant information throughout the year, mostly via email. Educators are encouraged to share their achievements and challenges by contributing an article to the newsletter.
For further information please contact Quit's Prevention/Cessation Program Project Officer, Rebecca Riley at Rebecca.Riley@cancervic.org.au, or by phone (03) 9635 5531.
To ensure Educators are kept up to date with Quit's newsletters, press releases and information, Educators are to alert Margarita or Rebecca whenever their email or postal address has changed.
