Running a Quit Course

Before Educators can run a course they will to need to complete the following steps.

Step 1 - Select a program

What kind of program do you want to run? - i.e. community or workplace seminar, Fresh Start course or Short Course?

Review Quit Programs section for details of programs you can offer.

Step 2 - Choose a day and time

From Quit's experience, the most popular days to run course programs are Tuesday through to Thursday. When choosing dates, try to avoid those that fall on, or close to, public and school holidays, or regular rostered days off.

Workplace seminars are usually scheduled at a time when staff meetings are held, during lunch (with lunch provided) or just before/after work.

Step 3 - Book a venue

Educators are to ensure there is a suitable room or venue available. Estimate how many participants will be attending to help you choose the right venue.

Be aware of the venue's facilities (number of chairs, video/ DVD facilities, laptop, powerpoint, coffee/tea, access to venue, security, parking/transport).

Step 4 - Promote your course/seminar

Decide on a cost per participant. Note that Quit has set a maximum cost for each course/ program that Educators must adhere to.

Quit Educators are responsible for recruiting participants for Quit courses. Make sure you allow sufficient time to promote your course in the workplace or community.

Examples of ways you can promote your course:

  • Display flyers at the workplace or around the community.
  • Write articles for local newspapers.
  • Speak with local health professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, dentists or the community health centre.

Step 5 - Booking your course

Please make sure you book the course and order the resources at least two weeks prior to your course commencing.

When you have set a course date, fill out and fax/email Quit's course resource order form located here.
