3 days and the occasional minor craving ...
17 Apr 2007
I have been ciggie free now for three days and thought I would have gone through several packs of the gum by now ... out of the 30 pieces I still have 21 bits remaining and a serious dislike for the taste of the mint flavour :)
During the past few days I have been at work and social functions and surrounded by smokers ... strange things is I didn't even want one when they were smoking next to me and offering them aswell.
In past attempts I have gone cold turkey and usually lasted a couple of months at most (more often than not a few weeks); but something just feels different this time.
The gum is really helping, as is the exercise program that may have actually caused me to want to quit. Not only am I stopping smoking but I am losing body fat, building muscle and the next phases is to increase the aerobic component of my daily run -
Scary thing is I have become the type of person I have always warned myself and joked about ...
As I am writing this now I am thinking about the thought of sitting outside with a cup of cheap instant coffee talking with my trainees and having a smoke ... I am not sure if it is the thought of the cheap instant coffee or the cigarette that is causing me to dry reach ... most likely the ciggie :) Either way I am going to skip both ... well the coffee might get a visit later on.
I had been smoking for over 15 years and just wish that it had felt this easy to flick the fag all the other times I have tried. I am wondering if I will get the monster cravings that others have talked about or if I can just pop another piece of gum and not worry about a thing other than what people think of my ability to pull new facial expressions when the gum kicks in and does it's job.
I know it is only three days and I most likely haven't overcome the physical dependancy of having something in my hands to play with ... but I am finding that my lungs are clearing out, my level of concentration is increasing, my sleep patterns enable me to go for a jog or work out before work (not a bad side effect) and that I can actually taste my food ... I think my first reward is going to be some cooking lessons :D
Anyway I will probably post something on this site at a latter date ... probably to let people know how the cooking lessons are going.
