Quitting smoking is hard, but Quitline can help in ways you might not expect

Chatting with a Quitline counsellor is one of the most effective ways to quitting smoking but sometimes picking up the phone and calling can feel confronting. You might be thinking 'what can they possibly say that will help, are they just going to preach to me?' We understand your concerns and summarised four things you won't get from Quitline:

1. You won’t get someone preaching to you

We’re not here to tell you why you should quit smoking - everyone has their own reasons. What we are here to do is support you in any way you need, whether that’s giving you more information about support services or nicotine replacement therapy or helping you think of quit strategies you may not have thought of before.

2. You won’t get generic advice

Quitline will offer tailored quitting advice and strategies relevant to you.  When you call Quitline, you speak with qualified counsellors who are trained to help you quit smoking. They’ll listen to you, understand the reasons you smoke, your triggers and challenges and personalise advice to suit you and your lifestyle.

Quit is your personal support system on your quitting journey.

3. You won’t be left wondering

Stopping smoking isn’t only about wanting to quit, it’s about having a plan that is realistic and knowing what to do or who to contact when it all feels too much. Our counsellors will help you work out a plan and provide you with the tools you need to navigate the process of quitting, so you’re more likely to have a smoother ride.

4. You won’t feel judged

We understand quitting can be hard. Some people worry they don’t have the willpower. For many, it takes a few goes before they quit for good. Quitline are trained counsellors who can help you build your willpower and a plan to make things easier. If you slip up during quitting, we’ll help get you back on track. No judgement.
