Like and share your favourite video in Latrobe Valley’s Pitch To Quit competition

Like and share your favourite quit-smoking video to help choose a winner as the final five entries in the Pitch To Quit competition go on public display before the winner is announced on March 1, 2018. 

The videos – designed to encourage the Latrobe community to go smoke-free as part of an innovative quit smoking campaign – can be viewed on the Pitch To Quit competition Facebook page.

The videos were made by finalists Grady Just (Save a Life), ScribbleVision (Not Alone), Linden Hanley (Overcome the Hurdles), Sarah Maningon (A Better Path) and Spectrum Productions (It’s Time).

“It’s been really exciting to see the range of outstanding and creative pitches submitted by people from throughout Latrobe and to watch the final five evolve into fully fledged videos,” the Pitch To Quit artistic director, Dan Clancey, said. “The finished videos are all very different and all incredibly creative. It’s going to be interesting to see who eventually wins.”

Pitch To Quit called on the Latrobe Valley’s creative minds to pitch their ideas for a digital video that encourages the community to go smoke-free. 

A judging panel selected the finalists based on criteria such as innovation, creativity, relevance, motivation to quit smoking, believability and the best use of evidence supporting people to change. 

The winner – whose video may be used by Quit Victoria in an online quit-smoking campaign – wins a $2500 Latrobe Valley gift card.

The winner will be chosen through a combination of factors related to the popularity of each film. 

“It is essential to reduce smoking to address the high incidence of cancer, heart disease and lung disease, which are leading causes of death in the Latrobe Valley,” the CEO of Gippsland Primary Health Network (Gippsland PHN), Marianne Shearer, said. “This is a great opportunity to make a difference. I can’t wait to see who wins.”

The competition is being run as part of the Smokefree Latrobe Initiative, funded by the Victorian Government through the $27 million Latrobe Health Innovation Zone. Gippsland PHN is running the competition, in partnership with Latrobe Health Assembly, the Victorian Government and Quit Victoria.
