Smokefree policies and regulations relating to workplaces and public areas are widespread in Australia. However, there are few restrictions on smoking in residential settings. As a result, there has been growing concern among Victorian residents about the impact of secondhand smoke drifting into their homes from surrounding areas and neighbouring properties. This issue is often of particular concern for those living in apartment buildings and other forms of multi-unit housing.
Quit Victoria has put together an information sheet Dealing with smoke infiltration in your home to help Victorians understand the avenues available to address smoke infiltration in their homes.
For further information about Quit’s recommendations for regulatory change in this area, read the Quit and Cancer Council Victoria position statement on smoke infiltration in residential settings.
