After 20 years and many failed attempts to quit I've finally cracked it.
I have to note here how I did it in case it helps anyone. Mainly it was noticing the 'want a fag' feeling early, and without going into should/shouldn't fight/struggle, unpacking why I wanted it. That was always either some stressor ('need a fag') or wish to reward/spoil myself ('deserve a fag'). Then I'd pick one of the alternative reliefs or rewards that I knew I liked better than sucking ash: stretch, snack, laugh, mischief, kiss. Basically its a software fix!
