James' story

James was on life support for 10 days. He had the scare of a lifetime.

"During that time, I had a lung infection, so the doctors said my lungs needed to be drained of fluid. I was conscious when they put the tube down my nose and into my lungs. The tube was clear, and I was able to see the fluid being drained from my lungs.

"This gunk that came out was black. I had smoked for 10 years and didn't realise what damage it caused to my lungs. So then and there, I decided to give up cigarettes and have never touched one since. I was lucky to see the fluid being sucked out of my lungs and it looked like oil to me. So, having a bad car crash made me give up smoking forever!
