Walking together towards a smoke and vape-free future

Smoking continues to impact many First Nations families and communities. At the same time, there is real strength and hope in the way our mob are coming together to support each other. Community-led programs, strong culture, and local leadership are helping people make changes in their own way. Support is also available through Quit, which offers free and confidential help, including yarns with trained First Nations counsellors over the phone, online chat, text message support, and practical tools for every step of the quitting journey. Quit also provides culturally appropriate resources designed with and for First Nations communities.

More and more, mob are choosing to quit or stay smoke and vape-free. Open, caring conversations about both smoking and vaping are important, especially for our young mob. Every small step matters. Taking steps to look after health and wellbeing is an act of care for self, for family, and for the generations to come.

For many, smoking and/or vaping has been tied to stress, grief, and intergenerational trauma. Healing takes time, and support should always feel safe and respectful. By walking alongside each other with understanding and compassion, and by reaching out when the time feels right, our communities can continue to grow stronger, healthier, and more connected.
