Seeing Through the Haze Education Resources

Seeing Through the Haze develops health literacy and equips students with critical knowledge and critical thinking skills. Laid out as a sequence of learning activities over three modules, Seeing Through the Haze takes a whole-of-school approach, developing active learners with the capabilities to:

  • Understand how vapes work and the health harms of vaping;
  • ‘See through the haze’ of misinformation, understand social and commercial determinants of health, and investigate cessation techniques;
  • Create their own campaign for smoke and vape-free places.

Teaching Guides

To support the delivery of Seeing Through the Haze, Quit has developed teaching guides for Year 5-6 and Year 7-10 delivery. The Teaching Guide is designed to be used alongside the student education resource. It explains the structure of the resources, contains lesson planning and delivery suggestions, curriculum links and answers to the activities.

Educators can select and choose which activities are delivered depending on their students’ needs, interests, learning abilities and timetables. Possible extension activities are also included should you wish to deepen student learning further.

Student Education Resources

Student education resources are available for upper primary (Year 5-6) and secondary (Year 7-10).

Key learning outcomes include:

  • Foundational knowledge to understand vaping and the impacts on health
  • Explore the history of vaping, the science of vaping and the impact on the environment
  • Gain awareness of how social factors, including peers, influence decisions about vaping
  • Investigate vaping cessation support options
  • Examine the marketing and advertising tactics used by industries when targeting young people
  • Identify local community organisations and professionals who work to provide healthier environments for young people to live, work and play
  • Create a campaign that advocates for smoke and vape-free areas

The student education resource has a coherent sequence of activities for students to complete.
