Other nicotine products to avoid
When tobacco burns, it releases nicotine and more than 7000 chemicals. These include about 100 that are poisonous and at least 69 chemicals that can cause cancer.
It doesn't matter if the tobacco is roll-your-own, shisha, cigars, bidis or kreteks, all are harmful. These products also release nicotine, making them highly addictive.
Cigarettes that say organic or additive-free are not safe either. They all make toxic smoke. Herbal cigarettes don’t have nicotine but are also harmful because they release tar and other poisons. Heather tobacco products have many of the same poisons as regular cigarette and still contain nicotine.
Shisha smoke has nicotine and lots of toxic chemicals. People usually breathe it in more deeply and for longer than cigarette smoke, which increases exposure. Shisha smoke can quickly raise your heart rate, blood pressure, and carbon monoxide levels.
Vapes don’t have tobacco, but they are made from a mix of many chemicals. Some of these are known causes of cancer and heart disease. Most vapes contain nicotine, which is very addictive. People who vape often start smoking later. Vape aerosols also contain tiny particles that lodge deep in the lungs.
Nicotine pouches are also not made from tobacco. They contain nicotine plus many other chemicals. We don’t know how safe it is to consume all these chemicals.
There are proven ways to quit. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other medications from a doctor can help you beat nicotine addiction.

Nicotine works fast and reaches the brain within seconds of the first puff of a cigarette, vape or other emerging oral nicotine product.
